Dedalus: for this Global Health Software Company from Italy expanding internationally, English is essential

The Challenge

Dedalus is a fast-growing company based in Italy involved in the digital transformation of healthcare.

For the last couple of years, their growth has translated into acquiring new companies internationally.

The HR department of their headquarters has been faced with a new challenge. They now have to communicate in English with HR teams from subsidiaries around the world.

Gianni Luongo, Talent and Training Team Leader at Dedalus reached out to us so that we could help them with an English training focused on HR issues. He also wanted to use the opportunity of the training to deepen the relationships between the participants, all members of the HR team in Italy involved in various areas (training, recruitment, admin, etc.)

The Solution

Together with Gianni, we decided to go for a series of 18 sessions of 2 hours via Zoom. 9 participants from the HR team were selected to take part in it.

Each session covers a different HR subject such as recruitment, training, staff engagement, giving feedback, etc. On top of that, more general business English includes: meetings, negotiations, presentations, etc.

When we designed the course program, we kept a few sessions free so that the topic of these sessions could be fine-tuned once the teacher evaluate more closely their needs and objectives.

The sessions are built to increase every participant’s confidence while speaking English.

The teacher presents the topic, engage in a discussion with the group and offers an activity to do in small group using breakout rooms.

This is an effective way to actively learn during the session.

The Results

The results were felt in various areas:

– the participants share a common experience and feel more connected with each other because of that

– the participants felt they know and can use vocabulary related to their field

– the participants are not scared of talking in English anymore in the class

– the participants are able to attend meetings in English, and engage in them

– the participants have increased their professional knowledge in the HR field

– the participants have acquired a growth-mindset and are eager to learn
