A Video Summary About Personal Pronouns

Personal pronouns are small words that are used to avoid repeating a noun or noun phrase.
Personal pronouns usually refer to a person but can also refer to animals and objects. They can vary depending on; what they refer to, the quantity (one person or several people) and the gender.

There are four main groups of personal pronouns
1. Subject pronouns – used to substitute the subject of a sentence, i.e. the person or thing doing the action
2. Object pronouns – used to substitute the object of a sentence, i.e. the person or thing receiving the action, or affected by the action.
3. Possessive pronouns – used to substitute the noun and possessive determiner, they refer to the owner of something.
4. Reflexive pronouns – used to when the object and subject of a sentence are the same. They refer back to the person doing the action.

~In English verb endings do not change as much as in other languages, therefore it is important to use subject and object pronouns to avoid confusion.

~Many people now consider themselves non-binary and prefer to be referred to as they or them.

~Make sure you don’t confuse the possessive determiners (e.g. my) with the possessive pronoun (e.g. mine). The determiners must always be accompanied by a noun.
