Learning English Online: Goodbye Skype & New Opportunities
Learning English Online Goodbye Skype

After two decades of connecting people across the globe, Skype is shutting down its activities, marking the end of an era in online communication and in learning English online.

The End of An Era: Goodbye English Lessons via Skype!

At Live English, Skype played a crucial role in our journey: For the last 18 years, it has allowed our students learning English online to connect effortlessly with our team of native English teachers from the other side of the world.

Back in 2007, when Skype English lessons were still revolutionary, it transformed the way we taught and learned languages online. For the first time, students could have real-time, face-to-face lessons with teachers from English-speaking countries without having to travel. Even if, back then, we were rarely using the webcam since the Internet connection was not as strong, it brought the world closer together in ways we had never imagined.

Learning English Online Today: Zoom Workplace, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams

But as technology evolved, so did our tools. A year before the pandemic, we transitioned to Zoom Workplace, recognizing the need for a more stable and feature-rich platform, especially for group lessons. Today, we also offer lessons via Google Meet and Microsoft Teams, ensuring our students have multiple ways to connect with our expert teachers.

The Live English Mission

However, while platforms may change, our mission remains the same. The essence of what we do isn’t about the technology, it’s about the learning. The real value lies in the human connection, in the guidance and support of our native English teachers who help professionals master English conversation, small talk, deliver impactful presentations, lead meetings, and handle phone calls in English.

Technology has been a powerful enabler, breaking geographical barriers and making learning more accessible than ever. But technology alone is not enough. The true impact comes from the human touch, i.e. the ability of a teacher to provide encouragement, adapt lessons to individual needs, and create an engaging learning experience that goes beyond a simple video call.

Preparing for real-life situations while Learning English online

This balance between technology and human interaction is what makes Live English unique. While we embrace innovation and new tools to enhance the learning experience, we never lose sight of what truly matters: meaningful conversations, personal guidance, and the confidence that comes from real-life practice. No platform can replace the motivation and inspiration that a skilled teacher brings to a lesson.

Preparing for real-life situations in a safe and supportive learning environment is what truly makes the difference. And while we say goodbye to Skype, we continue to embrace new ways to help our students thrive in a global world.

Here’s to the next chapter of online English learning!
